For patients with moviment difficulties, the use of instant messaging applications can be very challenging and often frustrating.
It is interesting to note, however, that remote communication is important for patients who for some reason need to be alone for a few moments. Alert about a momentary condition like pain, hunger, physiological needs and mood may require urgent action.
How to send the message in a more objective, simple and fast way?
It is a very complex challenge, difficult to solve because it depends on the type of deficiency and the degree of impairment of the functional members and cognitive capabilities.
For some patients however, the use of instant messaging applications is feasible as long as they are tailored to require little user interaction.
Currently WhatsApp is far the most popular IM application. But development of systems that could interact with it are not encouraged since there is no public API (Application Program Interface).
Telegram, is also a popular messaging system that incorporates WhatsApp's key features and provides an open and well documented API.
Said that, we redesigned the player module of Picto4me to transmit and receive messages via Telegram. Integration was only possible thanks to the amazing Webogram project, an excellent web client for Telegram developed by Igor Zhukov.
To start using picto4me chat, you first need to create an account with Telegram and you will need to use a smartphone because activation of the account will be done through a code sent to the cell phone.
Configure the board you want to use on the communicator like this:
After saving the project you will see the chat icon in the upper right corner of the editor. Just click there and select a contact to start interacting on the telegram.
